Step inside the Steinway manufactory and discover what it truly takes to build one of the world’s great instruments. “Stationen eines Steinway” — Stations of the Steinway — is a video series that guides you through each stage of grand piano production in Hamburg, from the selection of raw timber to the final voicing of the finished instrument.

Each Steinway grand piano is assembled from more than 12,000 individual parts. Over the course of ten production stages — lumberyard, rim bending, parts production, soundboard, iron plate, assembly, regulation, coating centre, finishing, and voicing — the time, experience, and passion of every craftsperson become audible in every key stroke.

This introductory film is the starting point for the complete series. It traces the journey from raw material to finished concert instrument and captures the philosophy that has defined Steinway & Sons since 1853.
