Steinway „Imagine“, John Lennon
On October 9, 2010, John Lennon would have celebrated his 70th birthday. In his honour, Steinway & Sons has developed a collection named the ‘The Imagine Series Limited Edition’ that pays tribute to the oeuvre of the ingenious musician and composer. The Imagine Series embodies the perfect harmony between music and creativity, akin to the songs written by this musician whose life was suddenly and prematurely taken from us in 1980.
Homage to a legend
The Imagine Series is modelled after the white Steinway grand piano that John Lennon presented to his wife, Yoko Ono, on her birthday in 1971. Each grand piano bears the opening notes of the song ‘Imagine’ on its cast iron plate along with a numbered plaque featuring an Asian-inspired signature by John Lennon and, on the soundboard, an illustration of John Lennon sitting on the globe.
You may say I’m a dreamer
Every one of the 25 instruments is distinguished by another, unique black and white drawing on its music desk. Only 25 pianos of each design have been produced so that the total number is limited to 175 grand and upright pianos worldwide. You can see the motifs of the last remaining Imagine models in the illustrations on this page.
