Yulianna Avdeeva fascinates with Chopin and Shostakovich at Hamburg Steinway Factory
The celebrated pianist Yulianna Avdeeva delighted the guests at the Steinway factory in Hamburg with a concert evening that was masterful in terms of both sound and dramaturgy. The focus of the exclusive recital was a finely balanced musical dialogue between Frédéric Chopin and Dmitri Shostakovich — a clever and emotionally powerful choice of programme that deeply touched the audience.

The 45-minute concert began with Shostakovich's Prelude and Fugue No. 1 in C major from Opus 8, followed by Chopin's Prélude No. 4 in E minor, whose melancholy tone offered a sensitive contrast. Avdeeva drew an even wider bridge between the two composers — with selected preludes and fugues by Shostakovich (Nos. 6, 7 and 24) as well as further expressive miniatures by Chopin (No. 5 and No. 8 from Op. 28).
In Avdeeva's interpretation, these seemingly contradictory sound worlds merged into a powerful overall picture: analytically clear, but never undercooled — rather imbued with fine emotionality, rhythmic precision and enormous tonal depth. Especially in Shostakovich's monumental Fugue in D minor (No. 24), Avdeeva once again revealed herself to be an artist of extraordinary expressiveness.
