STEINWAY EMPLOYEE: CARPENTER IN THE PARTS PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
In the production building of the Hamburg Steinway Factory, Jan-Ole Pensky (23) passionately creates the basic framework of Steinway grand pianos by fitting the rim with ‘spreaders,’ which provide a stabilising function to absorb enormous tensile forces.
As a carpenter, he is enthusiastic about working with pure solid wood and high-quality woods as well as the challenge of craftsmanship with chisels and hand planes, which are rarely to be found nowadays.
He appreciates the informal working atmosphere and the opportunity to work with different models of grand pianos and woods, which add variety to his daily routine very varied.
Jan-Ole is particularly enthusiastic about one activity: you can find out which one in our video.
