Hear a pin drop – the Voicing
The timbre of an instrument cannot be measured, unlike the pitch in tuning a piano. Four voicers work on the instrument in order to create its special and unique character, using their experience and extraordinary hearing to spot weaknesses and adjust the system accordingly. They individually poke the hammer head felt with the voicing needle to increase its elasticity.
The nature of the sound of each instrument is very individual and bears the unmistakable Steinway signature. Head voicer Wiebke Wunstorf literally signs her initials on the key block, confirming the immaculate sound quality. Without it, a grand piano would never leave the factory.
