Biography Joja Wendt
At the age of four, Joja Wendt began what he calls "sound painting" on the piano. He went on to study piano at the Hilversum Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. During a jam session at a Hamburg music club, he was discovered by Joe Cocker. Joe then hired him as a support act for his tour, thus launching Joja's international career. Public performances with Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry followed.
Joja's concert tours have taken him from South Africa to Singapore, China, and Russia, and all the way to the stages of New York's Carnegie Hall and other legendary venues. He performs at international jazz festivals with Monty Alexander and Lou Rawls, composes film scores, and has released more than 30 CDs, including Pacifique with jazz and soul legend Les McCann, recorded in Los Angeles. This consummate musician seems to effortlessly handle the stress of over 100 live performances a year. Live concerts are his greatest passion. He consistently receives standing ovations at all major concert halls, from the Alte Oper in Frankfurt and the Prinzregententheater in Munich to the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
In 2016, Joja Wendt founded the online piano school "JOJA's Piano Academy" to give as many people as possible the opportunity to learn to play the piano from home. The courses are designed for both beginners and advanced players and are constantly updated with new content.
Joja Wendt is a recipient of the Louis Armstrong Prize and is a Steinway Artist.
