The first stage of the 64th Busoni Piano Competition: The Glocal Piano Project in cooperation with Steinway & Sons
In the summer of 2022, 100 candidates out of 600 applicants were invited to take part in the Glocal Piano Project in November 2022. For the second time after its introduction in 2020, the Glocal Piano Project replaced the first round of the Busoni Piano Competition, but this time it was held as a hybrid format over 10 days in Steinway & Sons showrooms in 12 cities on three continents: Recitals lasting a maximum of 20 minutes were recorded in the presence of a live audience.
These videos were watched and evaluated by 7 jurors who chose 26 participants for the upcoming final rounds in August 2023 in Bolzano. In addition, 35,000 users followed the Glocal Piano Project, appreciating it as a reflection on contemporary piano playing as well as the artistic diversity and stunning skills of young up-and-coming pianists. The audience could also take part in the voting and name and additional four pianists for the finals in August 2023. Due to overlaps with the verdict of the jury, 3 finalists were effectively determined by 10,657 registered users via the public vote.
All participants have been given the opportunity to perform on a D-274 concert grand piano, Steinway & Sons’ legendary flagship instrument. The videos will remain available until the start of the 2023 finals. Check out your favourites here!
