Godparents Lucas and Arthur Jussen

They are not twins, and neither do they like to be called prodigies, said Lucas and Arthur Jussen of themselves in an interview with “Concerti”. They are “normal guys who love to make music” – a charming understatement. Born in 1993 and 1996 in Hilversum in the Netherlands, the pianists grew up in a musical family; their mother was a flautist and their father a timpanist. The brothers took lessons with Jan Wijn and studied with Maria João Pires. Lucas Jussen continued his education in the USA and at the Reina Sofia Conservatory in Madrid. His younger brother, Arthur Jussen, studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory. They have been performing as a duo for many years and have released several albums.

Arthur Jussen jokes that the Dutch are a little jealous of Hamburg’s beautiful Elbphilharmonie. They played in the concert hall for the first time in April 2018 and are enchanted. “It’s just overwhelming. It looks beautiful, you feel good and it sounds good,” says Lucas Jussen. “The materials and design are simply wonderful, especially the oak wood”. As musicians, they don’t have to worry about anything in the Elbphilharmonie – the acoustics are perfect and the Steinway has all the colours and nuances from bass to high tones. With it, they can express themselves any way they want. For the brothers, the Steinway & Sons Elbphilharmonie Limited Edition is the symbol of a friendship between two great “products”. They consider their godparenthood of this extraordinary instrument a great honour.

„The Elbphilharmonie consists of many beautiful materials but for us the most special one is the oak wood. The combination of a Steinway piano with the wood of the Elbphilharmonie is amazing. We love the design.“
