Godparent Daniil Trifonov
Daniil Trifonov, born in 1991 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, is a world-class pianist whose first-class education in the instrument began during his time at school; he studied piano and composition at the legendary Gnessin Institute in Moscow before moving to the United States’ Cleveland Institute of Music in 2009. The talented musician was awarded prizes at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv and the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. A child prodigy and a gifted pianist, his sensitive and technically outstanding playing draws the listener in and leaves them spellbound. He lives in Moscow and New York, and his concerts elicit enthusiastic reactions from audiences all over the world.
We are delighted that we were able to bring Daniil Trifonov on board as a musical godparent for the Steinway & Sons Elbphilharmonie Edition. “When I think of Hamburg,” says Trifonov, “I inevitably think of Steinway, Brahms and the Elbphilharmonie, and the way in which that striking landmark of the city rises up as one crosses the bridges over the Elbe.” The pianist is delighted by the coming together of two great Hamburg success stories – the 150-year-old and tradition-rich company Steinway & Sons and the young Elbphilharmonie. Trifonov considers it a great honour to serve as a godparent for the unique and limited Elbphilharmonie Edition. Culture ultimately defines our humanity.
"The architecture of the Elbphilharmonie is very unique. It is interesting to see this beeing implemented in the design of the piano."
