Víkingur Ólafsson: First Spiriocast Live Broadcast from the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg!

At the 24th of June 2024, Steinway & Sons celebrated another milestone in its 171-year-old history when star pianist Víkingur Ólafsson streamed one of his final concerts of his rousing Goldberg Variations tour live from the stage of the iconic Elbphilharmonie Hamburg via SPIRIOCAST into the homes of Spirio owners across the globe as well as Steinway representations in New York, London, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Madrid, Milano, Munich and Hamburg.

This marked the first ever live SPIRIOCAST concert from the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, serving as the grand pre-finale of Ólafsson’s world tour with the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988).

To mark the occasion, Steinway & Sons held an exclusive launch party with a live video broadcast in the heart of the Steinway factory in Hamburg, where guests enjoyed the concert in real-time – a groundbreaking musical experience unlike anything before.

Steinway SPIRIOCAST: A revolution in music technology

Steinway SPIRIOCAST is a revolutionary software that allows the broadcast of live performances from one Steinway & Sons Spirio piano to one or numerous Spirio pianos in real time, including video — no matter where in the world this might be.

The technology behind SPIRIO | r and SPIRIOCAST is extremely elaborate and has been part of an ever-evolving process since it first launched. The Steinway patented proprietary sensor system in Spirio | r captures the movements of the hammers and pedalling, and SPIRIOCAST transfers the high-resolution data to recreate an identical, perfectly in-sync acoustical experience on all Steinway & Sons Spirio pianos equipped with SPIRIOCAST.

It is not a recording and not a reproduction — it is each instrument playing live, offering an unrivalled, unfiltered audio and visual experience.
