When Legends meet

Steinway & Sons Sunburst at Abbey Road Studios

Steinway & Sons unveiled a bold, new Limited Edition Steinway with the launch of the Steinway & Sons Sunburst during a glamorous launch party in the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London on February 6, 2018. The strikingly modern instrument, available now, features the explosive “sunburst” colours that have adorned guitars beloved by the greatest names in rock.

On hand to perform on his sunburst guitar was Wolfgang Niedecken, frontman and founding member of the German rock band BAP, and bandmate pianist Michael Nass. Niedecken collaborated closely with Steinway craftsmen to create the Steinway Sunburst.

Additional sunburst performances came from keyboard virtuoso and Bruce Springsteen and Sting collaborator David Sancious; singer–songwriter, seminal guitarist and Led Zeppelin collaborator Francis Dunnery; and polymath bassist Martin Glover, aka “Youth.”

Classical pianist and Classic FM presenter Myleene Klass emceed the evening — and also performed on the Steinway Sunburst. Additional performances that crossed genre came via Dominic Anthony Ferris, one half of the duo The Piano Brothers, who dazzled during the cocktail hour.

Steinway & Sons Sunburst is limited to 69 pianos worldwide, celebrating the year 1969: the year in which Woodstock took place, when the Beatles released their legendary album Abbey Road, and when Led Zeppelin debuted. Sunburst is available as a Steinway Model B and as a Steinway & Sons Spirio, the world’s finest high-resolution player piano featuring the company’s proprietary software.
